Waving the wedding wand
A match made in the Caribbean
Maura Curley
About five years ago I became mesmerized by marriage, not my own, but the wonderful weddings Jacqueline Johnson detailed in the Caribbean.
Johnson, making a presentation at a tourism industry event, captured my attention as she shared data about destination weddings from the Bahamas to the British Virgin Islands, and plenty of islands in between. She carried an arsenal of information in her head. But more provocative was her passion.
Johnson, president and CEO of Global Bridal Group, LLC, is a Caribbean woman and seasoned veteran of the travel and wedding industry. Previously she was the executive travel director at Conde Nast Bridal Media.
She’s also a fixture in the Caribbean Tourism Organization, where she is a member of the executive committee and chairman of the CTO Foundation.
Cited previously as “one of the 50 most powerful people in the Caribbean,” Johnson has received numerous accolades. She’s the recent recipient of The Jerry Award” from the Caribbean Tourism Organization in 2011 for her promotion of the region.
And what’s not to promote? Johnson, who travels constantly, possesses a wealth of knowledge about wedding resources on every Caribbean island. She savvy and smart, and strives to create an authentic island experience that’s a win – win for couples and the vendors who make their dream come true.
Johnson’s enterprise operates three websites geared to different niche markets. MarryCaribbean.com caters to couples planning their wedding and honeymoons. Visit this website and you'll find lots of helpful consumer advice as well as wedding cake traditions such as the region’s rich and fruity black cake with its fabulous royal frosting. Caribbeanweddingassociation.com and globalweddingresource.com both provide easily clickable data to assist industry insiders in maximizing profit from the $160 billion bridal market.
There may be plenty of wedding planners, singers and photographers, but there’s nobody quite like Johnson. She embraces the region’s natural and cultural resources, nurturing Caribbean soil to produce both romance and revenue.
