It’s the quieter side of St. John, where the goats really do roam - in herds by the side of the road. You’ll also find donkeys, sheep, chickens and unusually friendly people.

Coral Bay residents bill their community as the “the quirky, quiet opposite of bustling Cruz Bay.” Coral Bay, which is only nine miles from Cruz Bay, where the car and passenger ferry dock, delivers visitors to the island. But spiritually it is a different hemisphere from Cruz Bay with its two major hotels and condo resort.

Coral Bay has no large hotel style accommodations. Instead visitors can stay in reasonably priced private villa rentals, which offer scenic views of the British Virgins and unparallel privacy.

Coral Bay’s tight knit community of sailors, shopkeepers – and yes some eccentrics - actually loves visitors and make you feel at home- whether you’re visiting for a month or just indulging in one lazy afternoon of exploration.

This little oasis has plenty of simple but sublime treasures– from sunrises, snorkeling and sailing to shopping at one of kind boutiques. There is no gas station, but plenty of places to buy provisions and some memorable bars and restaurants too.

Coral Bay was the center of St. John’s plantation life in the early 18th century, and once the capital of St. John.

For some it still represents the heart of the island.
