Meet Yndiana Montes, and you will not forget.

Her enthusiasm is infectious, and when it’s for the Caribbean, all islands are included.

During Caribbean Week in New York Montes is being honored by the Allied Members of theCaribbean Tourism Organizationwith the Gerry Award for her promotion of the region. She l accepted the award at a luncheon at Helmsley Hotel June 11.

The Gerry Award is named after Gerald Magit, another Allied member of the CTO, who was a tireless worker in the promotion of the Caribbean.

Montes, a native of Venezuela, has spent more than 20 years promoting the Caribbean through her writing and public relations activities on behalf of tourism organizations from several island countries.

She has participating in many exhibitions, and conferences, working with media and tourism companies, writing articles and doing interviews with island Ministers, CEO’s and others. Montes says her mission is to promote sustainable tourism in the Caribbean region and bring more exposure to the Latin America market.

Montes has extensive knowledge of the Caribbean. She lived in Aruba for two years and started newspapers for Bonaire and Curacao. Her love for the islands and their beauty prompted her to promote sustainability in the tourism industry.

Montes foundedSolocaribe.com, which communicates aspects of the Caribbean throughout Latin America, Brazil, the Caribbean and the East coast of the U.S.

Last year she met Bill Milligan, a former family physician from New Jersey. His love for Mexico and Latin American created a perfect partnership. He is now the English editor for SoloCaribe. Now they collaborate on projects in the Caribbean and Mexico from their homport of Wilmington North Carolina.

Both Montes and Milligan are frequent contributors to www.virginvoices.com
