A recently published anthology brings together stories from 37 writers in 14 island countries. Our Caribbean: A Gathering of Lesbian and Gay Writings from Antilles. contains works from is believed to be the first collection of its kind in the region.

Glave, who was born in the Bronx and grew up in Jamaica, says the anthology is a much-needed expression of Caribbean gays and lesbians, who have been repressed. He feels a discussion about gender issues is long overdue in the region.

In fact he said some contributors to the anthology did not want to come out of the closet, because they were uncomfortable doing so in their small island countries..

Gave says the book explores what actually may constitute lesbian or gay writing in an anthology which includes - fiction, nonfiction , poetry and memoir, and demonstrates the diversity of the cultures and the countries in the Caribbean.

The anthology took about five and a half years to complete as a “grassroots project.”
