The Virgin Islands National Park, St. John now has an accessible trail.

The Friends of the Virgin Islands National Park in St. John made the project possible.

The 650-foot long, boardwalk begins at a parking area and weaves to a pier and salt pond, perfect for bird watching.

Volunteers donated more than 500 hours of labor to finish the weeklong project, which was completed with $20,000 of donated lumber.

Other funding came form a cost share grant, which created a foundations for the boardwalk.

The Francis Bay Trail is the first of an access initiative known as the Accessible Trail Project.

A second trail is planned for St. John’s Cinnamon Bay. It will weave through historic ruins.
